Results: Kansas City Bier Meisters Winter Buzzz 2020

The results are in for the 37th Annual KC Bier Meisters Homebrew Competition. See the results here: www.kcbmcomp.com

Several of us FOAM members made the trek to help judge and steward the competition: David Thompson, Peter Polczynski, Sol Torluemke, Whitney Ludwig, Kate Friedl, Ryan Friedl and myself. Our friends at KCBM put on a great competition and they are exemplary hosts! We had lots of delicious food and even better beer to drink, when we weren’t judging.

One of the highlights of the weekend was a Mead Panel, consisting of Susan Ruud, owner of the award winning Prairie Rose Meadery, Scot Schaar, NHC 2017 MMOTY and Head Brewer at Crawford Brew Works in Davenport, IA and Carvin Wilson, 2019 AMMA Mead Maker of the Year, 2019 NHC Co-Mead Maker of the Year. This was a Q&A panel, and there was lots of great information and some very nice mead to sample.

David Thompson snagged a gold medal for his “Biere De Effing Garde 072” (24C: Biere de Gard) and a silver along with his co-brewer Jeffrey Swearengin for their “Swidgin’s Bock” (9B: Eisbock). I got a gold medal for my “Anything Gose” (27A1: Gose) and a bronze for my “Wicked American Brown” (19C: American Brown Ale).

Scoresheets should be scanned and available sometime before Monday, February 17. Thanks to all who participated!
