President’s Report: November 2019

Happy November, FOAMers. As I write this, I sit with an early winter storm blasting fall leaves from their perches, and a three week old baby in my lap. Three fermenters sit in the closet, my garage freezer needs cleaning, and I’m behind on some keg washing. Until today, the weather has been primo for brewing. I hope you’re all taking a few hours to sock away some beer to enjoy, share, and send in for competitions in the spring.

Speaking of competitions, I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to everyone who participated by judging, brewing, competing, or attending this year’s now-complete FOAM Cup. It is the club’s largest BJCP event of the year, and it always takes a small army to pull it off. Special thanks to Desiree and Dave for all of the time and energy they put into organizing this every year.

Officer Elections happen at this month’s meeting. There is still time to volunteer yourself or nominate another club member for holding FOAM office in 2020. Currently the nominations are as follows:

President: Marion Gooding
VP Communications: Desiree Knott, Alex Long
VP Events: Jeff Pursley, Sol Torluemke
VP Competitions: Gary Elliot
VP Membership: Valerie Grogan
Webmaster: Whitney Ludwig
Treasurer: Travis Kirby

Any additional nominations should be emailed to officers@alemakers.org no later than Wednesday, November 13. The club constitution doesn’t permit officer nominations on the day of the election. We love our officers, but we also love new nominees, because that means our club is growing and our members are engaged. So don’t be bashful about stepping up to serve. It’s YOUR club, after all. Also, make sure to attend the meeting this Thursday and cast your vote.

Belgian Beer Night is this Thursday!!!!

It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year. Belgian beer night is an annual tradition of November. Plan to bring your best homebrewed Belgian style beers, or if you must, bring your favorite commercial examples to share with the club. Also, make sure to have a good meal before coming to the meeting; some Belgian styles are known for their higher alcohol content. As much as we want everyone to appreciate the beer at Belgian night, we also want everyone to have a pleasant, comfortable, and safe experience. Make your arrangements accordingly.

Cheers,

Marion Gooding, President
