President’s Report: July 2020

Hello FOAMers, and welcome to summertime! Things are heating up as we head into the middle of the year. It’s a good time to brew with some Norwegian yeast known for its tolerance for high temperatures. We’ve seen brewers have great results tackling a variety of styles with these Kveik strains. And the best part is you can let it ferment in your garage or beer closet without refrigeration.

In other yeast news, Lallemand has been promoting its Philly Sour strain lately, a new pack of critters that supposedly produces lactic acid during active fermentation, enabling speedy sour ales without having to kettle sour. I’m looking forward to trying my hand at a sour NEIPA.

While things are still in flux right now, I hope everyone is staying safe and taking precautions for themselves and others. Tony at Dead Armadillo has extended the welcome to club meetings in the Boneyard for as long as we like. I hope we can get back to the church at some point but while COVID numbers continue to rise, the officers feel that the larger outdoor space is likely a better option for being able to meet safely.

The meeting will be the usual time tonight. I am requesting that everyone please wear a mask out of courtesy and care for each other as well as for the employees at Dead Armadillo who will be taking care of us.

Cheers,

Marion Gooding
FOAM President
