President’s Report for May

Hello fellow FOAMers!

I’m so exited to see to everyone at tonight’s meeting at Hope Church. We will have a few things to talk about and then we can enjoy some great homebrewed beers. This months “style” is extract beers. If you brew extract we’d love for you to share them with us. Of course any homebrew is always welcome. I will be doing a tech talk on improving extract beers for anyone who’s interested.

Iron Brewer is set for May 21st!

Get your team registered! The Iron Brew competition concept is taken from the Iron Chef television show. The general idea is for teams of homebrewers to test their recipe formulation and brewing skills by brewing a beer from previously-unknown ingredients. This competition is open to all Oklahoma homebrew clubs.

Event Dates:

  • Team Registration Deadline is Tuesday May 17, 2022
  • Brew Day – Saturday May 21, 2021 at High Gravity
  • Set-up starts at 9:00 a.m.
  • Brewing starts at 10:00 am
  • Entries will be judged at the July FOAM meeting.

Already have a team? If you already have a team of 2-4 brewers, the Team Captain should be the one registering. Please do not register if you are not the Team Captain. Looking for a team? If you don’t belong to a team but would like to participate, please register your name. Click here to register your team or to request a team.

Our June meeting will be the FOAM Picnic!

We are really changing it up this year for the FOAM picnic. For the first time we are having the picnic at Chandler Park at the #3 Shelter on June 12th from 2-6pm.

The picnic is pot luck and we ask that everyone bring a side dish. FOAM will pay for the meat (burgers and hot dogs) to be cooked on the 2 grills that are on site. As always we will have a silent auction on items that members want to donate. There will also be a raffle for prizes donated from High Gravity and other companies.

Bring your homebrew too! We will of course have the FOAM jockey box setup.

This is the one gathering of the year that is a family event. Kids and pets are welcome. Fur babies need to be on a leash. Human children do not.

We have a date for the 2022 TCBI

Mark your calendars and be prepared for all hands on deck for this year’s Tulsa Craft Beer Invitational on Saturday, September 10th!

Last year was a great success and this year will be even better. The executive committee had their first meeting on April 30th to get the ball rolling. As we get closer meetings will expand to include chairs of subcommittees and then volunteers.

Pup Meetup for May and Introducing Tech Talks

The meetup for May is American Solera. Going forward we are planning on alternating the pup meetups with a technical discussion/panel/class/experiment to take place at High Gravity.

We will enlist FOAMer’s to come up with topics ideas and have them conduct them on the the 4th Thursday very other month.

An example would be to assign a brewers to brew something specific such as a true lager and one with kviek yeast. Then we hold a double blind tasting to see if we can identify the lager from the pseudo-lager.  Another example could be that we dose a base beer with hop extract to help identify the flavor/aroma profiles of various hops. Things like that.

We have created a page to submit your tech talk ideas. Click here to submit yours.

See everyone at Hope Church!

Cheers,
Desiree Knott
