President’s Report for July

Iron Brewer Judging

I’m very excited for tonight’s meeting and judging of this year’s Iron Brewer beers!

The Iron Brewers competition concept is taken from the Iron Chef television show. The general idea is for teams of homebrewers to test their recipe formulation and brewing skills by brewing a beer from previously-unknown ingredients. The FOAM Iron Brewers Award will be determined by the judges. Judges will evaluate each beer against the entry form that was completed on brew day.

The people’s choice will be decided among those attending the meeting.

TCBI is around the corner!

Progress is moving forward for this year’s Tulsa Craft Beer Invitational. The TCBI Executive Board has had a few meetings and will soon be bringing in sub-committee chairs into the meetings as we get closer. Start brewing those beers! This is a HUGE fundraiser for FOAM so this is a all-hands-on-deck event. If you cannot brew a beer to serve, then please consider volunteering to help at the festival. We need people to help with setup, breakdown, to help pour beer for breweries, distribute water, help with the merchandise table, etc… Signup forms will be posted on the alemakers.org site in the next week.

Pup Meetups and Tech Talks

We are asking FOAMer’s to come up with topics ideas and have them conduct them on the the 4th Thursday very other month. An example would be to assign a brewers to brew something specific such as a true lager and one with kviek yeast. Then we hold a double blind tasting to see if we can identify the lager from the pseudo-lager.  Another example could be that we dose a base beer with hop extract to help identify the flavor/aroma profiles of various hops. Things like that. Right now we have only had one request and are in the process of getting that going. If you have an idea for a tech talk, click here to submit it.

Until then we will continue to have a taproom meetup and this month the meetup is at NEFF Brewing on July 28th.

See everyone at Hope Church!

Cheers,
